Philly-Philly: Bud Light Offers Free Beer If Eagles Win

By Neat Pour Staff |

Kudos to Bud Light’s ad team for reminding us that while Big Beer may be lacking in the flavor department, they can compensate with beautiful PR stunts. The brewing giant promised to buy all the people of Philly free Bud Light should the underdog Eagles defeat the Patriots at the Super Bowl this weekend.

It all started back in August when Philly offensive lineman Lance Johnson told ESPN, “I have a lot to prove to this city…. I think if we have a few big years and make the playoffs, if we win a Super Bowl, I’m giving out beer to everybody.”

Bud Light’s team noted the comment and responded on Twitter. The brewer offered, “Let’s make a bet. Win it all and the party is on us. Deal?”

When that exchange occurred, Vegas placed the odds of Philly making the big game at 50-1. However, by November, the birds were looking good. At that point, Amitty, a BarstoolSports writer, chimed in. He tweeted at the Bud Light, “Here’s your friendly reminder Bud Light promised to pick up Philly’s entire bar tab if the Eagles win the Super Bowl.”

Bud Light quickly responded, tweeting, “Oh believe us, we haven’t forgotten.”

Now, Philly is actually one win away from the Lombardi Trophy and the brewer is sticking to their word. “Congrats to the Eagles on earning a trip to Super Bowl LII,” A-B InBEv declared in a statement, “We are still planning an epic celebration, but true friends of the crown never assume victory, so in the interest of not jinxing the team, we will keep our plans under wraps until the outcome of the Super Bowl is determined.”

“We look forward to delivering on our promise and sharing a few beers with our friends in Philly should the Eagles bring home the Lombardi Trophy. Fly Eagles Fly and just this once – Philly Philly.”

Bud Light also released a television spot praising the City of Brotherly love in conjunction with their ongoing “dilly-dilly” campaign.
