Raekwon Cooks Up A Lambrusco

By Neat Pour Staff |

Hip-Hop legend Raekwon has been known as da Chef since the 90’s, but these days he is focusing his culinary skills on winemaking. The rapper just unveiled Licataa, his new Lambrusco wine.

Yup, a Lambrusco! Being a pioneer, Raekwon chose not to waste his time with some cliché like vodka or champagne. Instead, he opted to enter the wine market with an obscure, but trending up, slightly effervescent, red from Italy.

His Licataa Lambrusco is named for a Sicilian locale, but produced in the Emilia-Romagna region of the north of Italy. The name is actually inspired by a Staten Island connection (of course.) “Licata is a small [town] in Sicily where a lot of people that were immigrants to America came from,” he told Wine Spectator. “In Staten Island, we’re the farthest out from New York City—you have to go across the water. I love the name; it’s relatable.”

Apparently, the Only Built 4 Cuban Linx maestro did his homework on Italy as well as wine. His business partner and manager Rashida Walter, President of SuperFemina Entertainment, told press that the pair met with sommeliers and wine makers for advice and critique before unleashing the juice.

The bottles are priced between $20 and $30 a pop which Raekwon said is part of the point. “What I choose to deliver here is an affordable luxury. Wine gives people a different feeling than liquor. It’s got a grown vibe,” he told HipHopDX.com. “But I don’t believe you need to go into debt just to get a bottle of wine – I want to reach those people who were with me from the jump, but I still want people to get an authentic experience of the high life,” he said.

Currently, the wine is only available in NYC. (yes, it’s in stock at Staten Island’s Shaolin Liquor.) Launches in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami, and Las Vegas (also NJ) are in the works.

Keep on grinding Chef!
