Katie Renshaw (etta, Chicago) “A Stranger Among Us,” won Italicus’ “Bar Artist of the Year” competition in 2018. The drink riffs on the popular italian apertivo with some added citrus and earthy elements.
“I wanted to create a cocktail that was personal and something that strayed from the typical aperitivo or Spritz. I always thought of Italicus Rosolio as a new and unusual spirit, particularly for American bartenders, so I thought of an artist I was familiar with who created unusual art,” explained Renshaw. “Franco Innocenti is a surrealist, who has a signature series of work called, ‘A Stranger Among Us,’ in which he depicts scenes of animals or objects where there is a single element that stands out from the crowd. I’ve always related to it because I feel a certain kinship with the ‘stranger’ in these various pieces. I always felt a need to stand out.”
