The magical, hangover-curing powers of the wonder-elixir that is Pedialyte are well documented. Still, some people feel uncomfortable drinking a product targeted at infants to combat the very adult problem of over drinking. Fear not, a grown-up version of Pedialyte is now available!
Meet Pedialyte Sparkling Rush, a powder promising to produce an effervescent version of the classic cure. Packaged into single serve packets, the powder is available in Cherry or Grape.
“There’s a reason so many turn to Pedialyte when they need help hydrating – it works,” said Jennifer Williams, MPH, Research Scientist at Pedialyte parent Abbott in a statement. “Pedialyte is so effective because the levels of electrolytes and carbohydrate are optimal for rehydration, and now our Pedialyte Sparkling Rush powder offers a new, on-the-go option for those who love some bubble in their beverages.”
Pedialyte boast about the high electrolyte count and low sugar levels in their products. (Unlike sports drink, Pedialyte focuses on sodium not flavoring.) The formula is perfect for hydrating babies and fighting hangovers—a condition marked by dehydration.
Of course, the FDA does not allow Pedialyte to market themselves as a “hangover cure.” However, as adult awareness of the drink delivering grew (adult consumption of Pedialyte increased 57 percent between 2012 and mid-2015), the company began making some subtle nods to the mature applications. Press for the Sparkling Rush touted use after “those late nights out with friends.”
Pedialyte Sparkling Rush is available at Target and Meijer stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.
