Auction Alerts: The Perfect Whisky Collection & Santa Barbara Wine Auction

By Neat Pour Staff |

As the premium beverage market explodes, so do the auction markets. This week, the thirsty (and wealthy) will have their choice of insanely rare whiskies at one auction or luxury wine experiences for a cause at another.

The Perfect Whisky Collection

The latest auction from Whisky Auctioneer promises to set all sorts of records. The first part of the two part sale is currently live and touting “The Perfect Whisky Collection.”

The Perfect Whisky collection was the life’s goal of the late Richard Gooding. Gooding was a fanatical collector who spent decades accruing the collection of 3900 elite bottles set for sale.

The lineup includes the largest known private collections of The Macallan, Bowmore and Springbank. But, don’t worry, large lots of Scotland’s “lost distilleries” like Stromness and Dallas Dhu.

None of it will be cheap though. The current bid on a bottle of Macallan 1926 Valerio Adami 60 Year Old is £800,000 ($1,026,000).

The first segment of the auction will continue until February 17th. A second segment with the remaining lots will start after that.

Wining & Dining For A Cause

The wines of central California might not be as well known as their NoCal neighbors and the Santa Barbara Wine Auction doesn’t tout the name recognition of Auction Napa Valley. However, on Saturday (2.17), the biennial Santa Barbara Wine Auction (SBWA) will leave an indelible mark on the lives of the thousands helped through their charitable event.

Now in its 11th year, the SBWA is focused on community. This year, the event will raise funds to provide healthcare for local farmworkers via Community Health Centers. In addition, long time SBWA beneficiary Direct Relief will also receive a share of the proceeds. Direct Relief is a widely respected non-profit with a long history of providing assistance following disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and wildfires—including some much appreciated help in Neat Pour’s home city of New Orleans.

Of course, the grassroots (literally) cause doesn’t mean that the night will not be luxurious. The auction will be held The Ritz-Carlton Bacara. Chef Peter Lee of Santa Barbara hotspot Loquita will serve up a four course (plus hors d’oeuvres) meal for the night. Bringing just enough b-list star power to the event, Billy Baldwin (the on from Backdraft) will serve as the MC for the night.

Tickets for the night start at $600 a head. You can find more info on the official website.
