Have you been wondering what Sammy Hagar has been up to recently? How about Rick Springfield? Good news, it turns out that the two iconic 80’s rockers have been busy—getting into the rum business. Meet Beach Bar Rum.
Hagar has been dabbling in the spirits game for a few years and after chatting with his buddy Springfield, he decided to relaunch the rum part of his portfolio. The “Jessie’s Girl” singer came onboard as a partner.
“Our first collaboration was a home run so we thought why not try it again,” Springfield told People Magazine. (For the uninitiated, that first collaboration was Springfield’s 1981 cover of Hagar’s “I’ve Done Everything For You.)
Fast forwarding 39 years, the rum range from the trio features three Puerto Rican made expressions: a basic white rum, Kola Spiced Rum, and Red Head Macadamia Nut Rum.
According to the press materials, the white rum features “notes of banana and coconut.” The Red Head is infused with the titular Macadamias as well as “the highest quality red coloring agent made from all natural fruit and vegetable juices.”
Then, there’s the Spiced Rum. We’re told that the offering uses “white rum as a base, numerous ingredients are blended into the white rum, none of which are as important as the kola nut. The result is a spiced rum like no other with hints of vanilla and coffee.”
The rums are distributed
nationally to a dozen or so states. The 750ml bottles retail for about $25 a pop.
The undertaking is part of a larger, sort of Jimmy Buffet-but-more-rock-n-roll effort from The Red Rocker. The campaign also includes a beach bar, a music fest (with REO Speedwagon!) and a tequila collab with Guy Fieri.
