‘Alcohol!’ At US Open, Madison Brengle Is Queen of Court & Cuvée

Pro tennis’ U.S. Open is back and underdog Madison Brengle is tearing up the bracket in style. After logging two upsets to advance to the tournament’s third round, the World No. 84 celebrated properly—with wine.

On Wednesday (9.03), Brengle made quick work of No. 19 seed Dayana Yastremska (6-2, 6-3; completed the requisite post-match interview; calmly collected her gear; and then made a beeline for the booze.

A video captured by journalist Ben Rothenberg shows the closing seconds of the interview followed by an excited dash for stands. Brengle’s friend (and first round victim) Australian Arina Rodionova was waiting with the crucial supplies.

Brengle, a 30-year-old from Delaware, yelled, “Alcohol!” Rodionova promptly handed her a split of Sutter Home red. The two athletes toasted and then Brengle slammed her bottle. Well played, ma’am!

Brengle and Rodinova are close friends. The often host one another and practice together before tournaments.

Next up for Brengle is American Shelby Rogers in the third round on Friday.

Hendrick’s Rolls Out Victorian Penny Farthing (Big Wheel) Exercise Bike

The gin maker’s newest offering, ‘Hendrick’s High Wheel’ is a stationary ‘penny farthing’ bicycle. (For readers who are not up-to-date on cycling history, the penny farthing was an early cycle popular in 1870’s; you might recognize them as those old school cycles with one giant wheel and one small one.) The Hendrick’s version is intended to be a throwback, low-tech response to the likes of the Peloton.
