Tales Of The Cocktail 2020 Spirited Awards Winners Announced

By Neat Pour Staff |

After much ado (including a postponement, a recasting of the votes, and a rules change), Tales of the Cocktail announced their 2020 Spirited Awards winners today.

Some categories like the World’s Best Bar were eliminated this year. And, other winners will be revealed via pre-recorded Spirited ‘show’ September 24. During that event, the committee will present the remaining plates: the Helen David Lifetime Achievement, Philanthropy, World’s Best Bar and the Pioneer Award.

However, the bulk of the winners were announced today. The list follows.

First Sips: FEW Immortal Rye

FEW Straight Rye Whiskey, a (70%rye, 20% corn, 10% malted barley) mash bill, forms the base of the spirit. However, the distiller proofs the barrel-strength rye whiskey down to bottling strength using 8 Immortals tea instead of water. Grown at an altitude of 2000 feet, in the southeastern corner of Guangdong Province, China, the Dancong oolong leaves are a real prize among tea nerds.)

Netflix’s ‘Oktoberfest: Beer & Blood’ Delivers Wiesn Watch

The six part miniseries is evocative of Boardwalk Empire… in turn of the 20th century Germany… with Samoan cannibals thrown in for good measure. The beautifully shot result is at times riveting and others absurdly mediocre (see Samoan cannibals). However, the writers included enough elements of Oktoberfest culture to keep a hophead entertained, even during the lowpoints.
