London’s Connaught Bar Tops 2020 World’s 50 Best Bars Winners

There is a new king of cocktail bars. On Thursday (10.05), the World’s 50 Best Bars dropped their 2020 rankings. London’s Connaught Bar landed in the No. 1 spot followed by last year’s winner Dante in New York City in the No. 2 spot.

“We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the venues on the 2020 list of The World’s 50 Best Bars. We are continually heartened by the industry’s resilience and positivity as countries continue to operate in varying degrees of recovery,” said Mark Sansom, Content Editor for The World’s 50 Best Bars. “Hats off to Connaught Bar, undoubtedly one of the finest cocktail bars of our time. The institution has earned a place on the list every year since 2010 and it has gradually grown in stature to become the world-beating bar it is today. Ago Perrone and his team are dedicated to excellence and look at every element of the guest experience to choreograph a faultless service. The Martinis aren’t bad, either.”

The list featured featured bars located in 23 countries. 11 new bars made the list including; the freshmen class was located in Australia, Colombia, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Spain, Thailand and UK.

The streaming event also featured special awards. Ashtin Berry was named the Roku Industry Icon. Alquímico in Cartagena took home the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award. Tayēr + Elementary, London won the Disaronno Highest New Entry Award. Hong Kong’s Coa nabbed the Nikka Highest Climber Award. High Five in Tokyo was bestowed the Heering Legend of The List.

The list was voted on by 50 Best’s 540 member academy, an 50/50 male/female identifying group of writers, bartenders, and other assorted industry types.
