Old Pal

  • Base Spirit Whiskey
  • Preparation Stirred
  • Flavor Bitter
  • Served On the Rocks

First credited to Prohibition bartender Harry McElhone, of Harry’s New York Bar in Paris, this modern recipe uses a 2:1:1 ratio of Whiskey : Dry Vermouth : Campari, while the original called for equal parts. The name is an homage to bar regular and sports editor William “Sparrow” Robertson who would greet friends and strangers alike as “Old Pal.” If you’re wondering–yes, the Old Pal is essentially a Boulevardier with different ratios.
